10 Must have Plugins for WordPress blog

Dec 10, 2009 6 Comments

Many of the best web hosts, even if they are not marketed specifically as WordPress hosting, offer WordPress hosting. If you are new to WordPress and blogging as a whole, you might not be able to take advantage of the full potential of this great blogging platform. WordPress comes with a lot of functionalities, but if you want to make your blog really one of a kind, you need to install plugins. Here are some of the coolest WordPress plugins, which are a must have for many (if not every) WordPress blog:

1.    Akismet

Akismet is your greatest ally against comment spam. If your blog becomes popular, you will find yourself spending hours a day reading all kinds of junk comments. Well, if you want to spare yourself this, you can enable Akismet. Akismet is included in the standard WordPress installation, so you don’t have to search for it all over the Net.

2.    All In One SEO Pack

If search engines are important for you, you can’t go without the All In One SEO Pack. This plugin is a must have for any best wordpress host.

3.    NextGEN Gallery

The NextGEN Gallery plugin allows to turn your wordpress hosting into image hosting. This plugin is a comprehensive image gallery and if you try it, you will hardly dislike it.

4.    WP Security Scan

Even if you host your WordPress blog with a best WordPress host, there are many security tasks you (and not your WordPress hosting provider) should take care of. The WP Security Scan plugin will scan for security vulnerabilities in your WordPress installation and will suggest how to fix them.

5.    WP DB Backup.

Best web hosts do perform regular backups but even the best WordPress hosts don’t backup the database of your WordPress installation. This is a task you should perform and WP DB Backup plugin is the best tool for this purpose.

6.    WordPress Mobile Edition

Mobile devices are everywhere and if you want to make it easier for your users to access your WordPress blog from a mobile device, you need this plugin. WordPress Mobile Edition modifies the page according to the type of the user agent and serves the appropriate version without any need for you to create separate pages for Web and mobile access.

7.   Popularity Contest

If you want to see (and show to your users) which of your posts are getting the most pageviews, comments, trackbacks, etc. you can do it with this plugin.

8.   Digg Digg WordPress Plugin

Social bookmarking is the best way to promote your WordPress blog and this plugin can ease the task substantially.

9.    TinyMCE Advanced

This small plugin ads 15 different extras to your WordPress blog, such as ISpell, Search and Replace and other advanced text operations and it makes it much easier to create the text of your posts.

10.    Easy AdSense

Google AdSense is the easiest way to monetize a site and there is nothing better than an easy to use WordPress plugin to help you with the setup of Google AdSense ads on your site.

WordPress hosting doesn’t include these plugins by default but if you want to have a great WordPress blog, you might want to install these must have WordPress plugins.

Hello, very interesting post, I used All in One SEO and Aksimet in my blog. I found an easier way to integrate gallery into my WordPress. Named GRAND Flash Album Gallery – multi category flash skin based photo gallery with powerful admin. I used it in my blog. There are so many different settings. You can adjust the color scheme for your blog as you wish. There are many different skins. You can present your photo gallery in a wonderful way, there is a full-screen mode. This is a very cool plugin.
